Ceramic Crowns

This is an area of dentistry that is rapidly evolving where the materials used to mimic natural teeth have now reached the point where it is impossible, in most cases, to tell tooth and porcelain crown apart.

Older porcelain crowns used to be prone to chipping and fracture and their fit was not as good as their metal counterparts. Now, however, they have never been as strong and well fitting – blending seamlessly with the surrounding teeth.

There have been many advances in dentistry over the last ten years and one of the most exciting are all ceramic crowns. These new materials allow is to use these crowns anywhere in the mouth and have comparable strength and life expectancy to conventional metal crowns. The benefits of these crowns are that they can be made to blend imperceptibly in with the surrounding teeth, we also have to remove less tooth structure in order to place a porcelain crown and so these are a more conservative choice.
