Meet the team

Dr James Critchley is an enormously experienced restorative dentist with over 24 years in practice. James works at Pittville Lawn and at other Portman practices around the UK, providing patients with all aspects of dental implantology, and cosmetic dentistry.

James' passion for dentistry started at an early age following his father who was one of the UK's leading implant dentists. Such was James' interest in dental implants that he started his post-graduate training before he had even completed his dental degree, spending time at the home of dental implants in Gothenberg Sweden. This was followed by time in America being mentored by some of the world's top cosmetic dentists. To date, James has completed 3,000 cases.

His post-graduate training is still focused on spending time directly with the world's leading dentists in the fields of implant dentistry and cosmetic dentistry. This has meant James has built a particular reputation for his skill in restorative and cosmetic dentistry, including the all-on-four technique.

In 2005 James opened his own practice in Cheltenham, Pittville Lawn, before it became part of the Portman family in 2011.

When James is not at the practice, he spends his time with his family. His interests are anything outdoors from Rugby to skiing.

Malcolm is a specialist prosthodontist at Pittville Lawn and will accept referrals for the full range of prosthodontic problems both fixed and removable. Including worn dentition, TMJ and occlusal problems, fixed and removable implant retained prosthesis and complex restorative treatment.

Malcolm is a very experienced clinician having been consultant in restorative dentistry at Oxfordshire Primary Care, Specialist prosthodontist in the Oxford University Hospital head and neck cancer centre, and 50 years in general practice.

Malcolm will be working at Pittville Lawn for two days a week alongside his associate role as clinical advisor and expert witness for the General Dental Council. Malcolm will be more than happy to discuss any cases prior to possible referral and also provide treatment planning for cases you wish to treat in your practice.

Frederico comes from Portugal. After graduating from Porto, he has held a post at the University as a clinical assistant, worked in private practice and at a private Hospital.

Frederico has completed his MSc in Endodontics, with Distinction, at the prestigious King’s College London.

Currently, Frederico has a limited practice to Endodontics and collaborates as a clinical tutor at the Delta Dental Academy in Bristol.

He is also the UK Key Opinion Leader, for the award-winning German microscope brand CJOPTIK and Eighteeth Medical. Frederico is a member of the British Endodontic Society (BES), the European Society of Endodontology (ESE), the British Academy of Microscope Dentistry (BAMD) and the Academy of Microscope Enhanced Dentistry (AMED).

Lakshmi graduated in 2002 from Oxford Dental College, Bangalore, India and then went onto pursue three years of masters in Periodontology from 2004 to 2007 at the same university.

Lakshmi then worked as a senior lecturer for four years in the same department, teaching undergraduates at the same college. Lakshmi also worked as a periodontist in various high end clinics spread across Bangalore, India.

Lakshmi decided to move to the United kingdom after marrying her husband, who is a paediatrician. Lakshmi then completed the licencing examination to practice as a dentist in the UK. During this process, she completed a fellowship programme in Lasers from Eastman Dental College London. Lakshmi has a special interest in Periodontology and is happy to treat all types of periodontitis cases.

In Lakshmi's spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, as well enjoys reading, creative writing and baking.

Tom is a Dentist who qualified from Cardiff University in 2012, where he received awards in pharmacology, endodontics and oral surgery.

He is committed to ongoing professional development and regularly undertakes postgraduate education to maintain and develop his clinical skills. He has completed postgraduate training in implant dentistry, including courses with the International Team for Implantology, and continues to attend UK-based education in this area.

Tom provides a broad range of general dental care, from routine treatments to more complex procedures, including restorative dentistry. He also offers implant treatment in line with his training and experience and works carefully to ensure appropriate treatment planning and patient understanding.

Tom is also an Invisalign provider, offering clear aligner treatment for suitable cases as part of an overall aesthetic and restorative treatment approach. He has a particular interest in digital treatment planning and the sequencing involved in aligner therapy, using technology to support a structured and patient-focused approach to care.

Alongside clinical practice, Tom has been involved in training and mentoring newly qualified dentists, having previously worked as a foundation trainer.

He is known for his calm and reassuring manner and takes time to help patients feel comfortable and informed throughout their care. He is also qualified to provide dental sedation where clinically appropriate.

Outside of dentistry, Tom enjoys cooking, keeping fit, and exploring the countryside with his dog.

Adriana is a dedicated and compassionate dentist with a strong interest in aesthetic dentistry and a keen eye for detail. A graduate of the University of Bristol, she is committed to providing a welcoming, safe, and positive environment for every patient. Adriana believes that comfort and care are essential to achieving high-quality dental outcomes.

During her time at university, Adriana contributed to research with the University of Bristol’s Biomimetics Group, exploring innovative techniques that mimic natural dental structures. This experience sparked a deeper interest in minimally invasive, aesthetics-focused care.

Although early in her career, Adriana has already completed training in facial aesthetics and remains actively engaged in ongoing professional development. She regularly attends industry events, including the International Conference on Advanced Esthetic and Implant Dentistry (ICAEID), and is pursuing further training in aesthetic and cosmetic dentistry.

Adriana is known for her gentle approach and meticulous attention to detail, helping patients feel at ease while working collaboratively to achieve healthy, confident smiles.

Outside of dentistry, Adriana enjoys self-care, cooking, and travelling. She is always seeking new inspiration and balance, both professionally and personally.

Dr. Liliana Barros is an expert in endodontics, with a degree from Porto University (2007), Portugal, with distinction and post-graduate training (PGDip) in endodontics from University of Lisbon.

Currently, her professional focus is on Endodontics, which has become her greatest passion. This special interest allows her to concentrate on delivering meticulous and methodical root canal treatments, ensuring outstanding quality and service.

Dr. Barros stays up to date on all the latest advancements in endodontic care, ensuring that her patients receive only the best possible treatment.

With a trustworthy reputation built on 15 years of experience in the dental industry, she has been recognised for her performance and dedicated work ethic. Her ultimate objective is to attain the highest standard in Endodontics through the use of a dental microscope and the application of the latest evidence-based practices.

Dr Barros is a member British Endodontic Society (BES), the European Society of Endodontology (ESE), the Portuguese Endodontic Society (SPE).

Olivia graduated from the University of Bristol in 2016 and has developed experience across general dentistry with a particular focus on oral surgery. She spent several years at Guy’s Hospital in London, gaining experience in managing complex surgical cases within the NHS.

Olivia enjoys all aspects of dentistry and has a focus on oral surgery and conscious sedation. She is currently studying for a Master’s degree in Dental Implants to broaden her clinical knowledge. Olivia aims to provide care in a professional and supportive manner.

Outside of dentistry, Olivia enjoys spending time with friends and fitting in a ski trip when possible.
